1999 State Quarters
The 50 State Quarters program was
implemented by the United States mint in 1999 to commemorate each of the fifty states,
five each year, or one new state approximately every 10 weeks through 2008. Each of
the new state quarters will be released in the order that they were admitted to the union.
With the introduction of the state quaters, there has been a renewed interest in
coin collecting.
In 1999,
Delaware,
Pennsylvania,
New Jersey,
Georgia,
and Connecticut
were released.

Delaware was the first state to be
admitted into the union on December 07, 1787. The reverse of this coin depicts
Caesar Rodney historic horseback ride to cast the deciding vote in favor of our nation's
independence, along with the words "The first state".
Pennsylvania was admitted into the
union on December 12, 1787. The reverse of Pennsylvania's state quarter shows
the outline of the state, a keystone, the state motto "Virtue, Liberty,
Independence", and the statue "Commonwealth".
New Jersey was admitted into the union
on December 18, 1787. The reverse of the New Jersey state quarter features George
Washington crossing the Delaware River, based on a painting by Emmanuel Leutze. It
also has the words "Crossroads of the Revolution".
Georgia was admitted into the union on
January 02, 1788. The reverse of the Georgia quarter has the outline of the state, a
peach, and Live Oak sprigs on the left and right of the coin. A hanging banner
displays the state motto, "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation".
Connecticut was the last of the 1999
state quarters to be issued, and was admitted into the union on January 09, 1788.
This quarter features "The Charter Oak".
